Braze makes it easier to work with omnichannel, because in addition to the classic channel email, they have a very good app integration so that you can also create and send push and in-app from the same tool. This makes it easier to keep communication together and make sure that you communicate in the channel that your users prefer and are most active in.
A custom event is something specific that you want to follow up on your users doing on your website or app. For example, you might want to track whether they use a specific feature on your app, in which case you can set up a custom event to notify you in real time every time one of your users does exactly that.
Custom events can be used both to trigger real-time communication so that you can send out your campaigns when they are most relevant, but you can also use events as conversions and follow up on how campaigns perform against different types of goals, not just the classic sales goals. Examples include a customer leaving a review or inviting a friend to your app. However, it is of course required that you use the tool in the "right" way and actually set up these custom events.
