When will our sales process become complex enough to need CPQ?

If your salespeople often need to ask product managers about "can this be combined?" or if you have complex discount ladders that are calculated manually in Excel, then CPQ is the right way. It suits all companies that want to scale up their sales without increasing the administrative burden.

How does CPQ prevent sellers from over-discounting?

In the CPQ system we put in "approval flows". The seller can give discounts up to a certain level themselves, but if they exceed that limit, the quote is automatically sent to a manager for approval before it can be sent to the customer. It gives you full control over the margins.

Do we have to have a huge product registry to get started?

Not at all. We often recommend starting with the 20% of your products that account for 80% of sales. When the basic structure is in the system, it is easy to expand with more options and rules as you go.
